तन्मात्राण्यविशेषास्तेभ्यो भूतानि पञ्च पञ्चभ्यः।

Translation by Henry Thomas Colebrooke (1837): The elementary particles are unspecific; from these five proceed the five elements, which are termed specific; for they are soothing, terrific, or stupefying.
Translation by John Davies (1881): From these five subtle elements, which are non-specific, proceed the five gross elements (bhūtāni), which are called 'specific'. They are (in their nature) tranquil, violent, and stupefying.
Translation by Ganganath Jha (1896): The five primary elements are non-specific; from these five proceed the five gross elements; these latter are said to be specific (because) they are calm (soothing), turbulent (terrific) and deluding.
Translation by Nandalal Sinha (1915): The Tan-mâtras are the indiscernibles. From these five, proceed the five gross Elements which are remembered to be the discernibles; for they are pacific, terrific, and stupefic.
Translation by Har Dutt Sharma (1933): The subtle elements are non-specific; from these five, the five gross elements are produced. The latter are called specific and are tranquil, violent and delusive.
Translation by Radhanath Phukan (1960): The Tanmātras are Aviśeṣa; from these five Tanmātras proceed five Mahābhūtas; these (latter) are said to be Viśeṣas; (they are objects of our enjoyment) and they produce in our mind the feelings of tranquillity, horror or delusion (as the case may be) under different circumstances.
Translation by Swami Virupakshananda (1995): The tanmātras are the indiscernible; from these five proceed the five gross elements; they are remembered as the discernibles, because, they are calm, turbulent and deluding.
Translation by G. Srinivasan (recent): The self-generated vortex or vrithi or perpetual harmonic oscillator has a non synchronised or sequential level of activity up to the eight powers. While elemental matter, with mass, are formed at five levels up to the fifth power. The spectrum of activities as logically derived establishes the formulation covering all interactive states, defined as synchronised, non synchronised and superposed or coherent.
